Three areas stand out as the next frontiers for open innovation: Open Energy, Open Health, and Open Gov.
Back in 2016, talking about Open Banking seemed like a distant dream. Since then, we have traveled a long and challenging journey to reach an ecosystem as innovative as Open Finance and Open Insurance. This evolution was only possible thanks to the joint effort of associations, private companies, regulators, and financial institutions.
The Next Frontiers of Open Innovation
Even with significant advancements, we know that the roadmap for these ecosystems is far from complete. New functionalities and regulations will continue to emerge, especially those that generate more value for the end user.
As these “boxes” are opened, new opportunities arise on the horizon. Three key areas stand out as the next frontiers of open innovation:
🔹 Open Energy
🔹 Open Health
🔹 Open Gov
1. Open Energy: Greater Transparency and Efficiency
Open Energy aims to standardize and make public information available in the energy sector, promoting greater transparency and efficiency.
The Brazilian energy regulator, Aneel (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica), launched Public Consultation No. 28/2023, which remained open until June 7, 2024. The objective was to discuss adjustments to the commercialization rules of electricity, facilitating the transition to a free market and improving retail energy management systems.
This initiative also seeks to accelerate the digitalization of the energy sector in Brazil, fostering transparency and competition among market participants.
2. Open Health: A Secure and Efficient Data Ecosystem
Just as in the energy sector, Open Health aims to create an ecosystem where health information can be securely shared, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers.
This includes:
✔ Standardizing medical data
✔ Facilitating access to health histories, treatments, and prescriptions
✔ Enabling better patient care and reducing inefficiencies in the system
3. Open Gov: The Digital Transformation of Public Services
Open Gov focuses on improving efficiency in public services by making government data and services more accessible.
This encourages innovation in the public sector, allowing for easier access to government information and integration with third-party solutions.
📌 A key initiative in this field is the Complementary Bill (PLP) No. 234/2023, which proposes the General Data Empowerment Law. This law aims to:
🔹 Create the Brazilian Data Monetization Ecosystem, allowing individuals to have ownership and control over their data
🔹 Ensure participation in the economic results derived from their data
🔹 Promote data security and privacy across sectors
The Box Has Been Opened—What’s Next?
The transition from Open Banking to Open Finance was just the beginning. Now, with attention turning to new sectors, we are on the verge of witnessing a new era of collaboration, efficiency, and transparency that will benefit all industries and society as a whole.
